Garden Revival BBQ Panel
Indecisive Gardener (IG) and SpaceButler
IG’s love of gardening blossomed when she first discovered David Austin roses during her thorough research into wedding flowers for SpaceButler and her nuptials. She started growing flowers and herbs in containers on the concrete patio of the newlyweds’ apartment and explored in-ground planting when the couple bought their house. IG loves finding new-to-her plants and cultivars and experimenting with plant combinations. Having studied fine art, Industrial Design and Visual Communication Design, IG applies her knowledge of art and design in creating her garden and now realizes she much prefers designing with plants to designing with plastic. IG is generally jovial but experiences a strong negative reaction to pseudoscience and gardening misinformation. She is grateful for Zappy and Passi’s patience in helping her understand plant science.
SpaceButler is not a gardener. He introduced IG to Discord in an effort to help her find people other than himself to talk to about gardening. His plan backfired when IG started the Garden Revival gardening community and he became an admin there and then IG’s co-host on the Garden Revival BBQ podcast.
IG also acts as producer for the podcast, pitching episode ideas to the panel, finding guests, editing episodes and creating promotional content. SpaceButler assists IG with the tech stuff.
Zappy_snapps
Zappy is a life-long, self-described plant nerd. It started in her childhood, trailing after her mother in the woods — who could tell you what every plant was and if you could eat it — and continued through getting a biology degree, where her favorite classes focused on soil ecology and ethnobotany.
Her passion for plants remained as a background to her life, growing gardens, foraging, and teaching plant id classes while working as a public school teacher. In 2019 she decided to take a break from teaching and took work as a gardener/landscaper to make ends meet. After realizing she had spent more time reading research on native plants, creating pockets of habitat in suburban settings, the hormonal response of trees to pruning and other plant-y topics than she had on learning and teaching while getting her masters degree, she decided it was time for a career change.
She started and ran her own fine gardening business with her husband for 5 years, before deciding that dealing with all the admin work was not it, and so sought work with a sustainable landscaping company that focused on creating gardens that incorporate native plants and those that can thrive without unsustainable practices. She now works taking care of city parks landscaping and is in the early stages of starting a plant nursery.
She is a huge plant fan, having grown everything from lithops to pinguiculas indoors, got a passionfruit (P. edulis, not a maypop!) to fruit in western Washington State, and loves pruning things. She is especially passionate about plants that support native pollinators or fill her belly, or are just too beautiful to pass by, like Begonia pavonina.

Passi is an ecologist in Alberta, Canada, where he is simultaneously getting his masters degree with a focus on plant cognition and working in environmental consulting. For this reason, he hasn’t had time to submit any info for his bio.
